Legislative Update

Rep. Greg Wren (AL House, Dist. 75) recently provided an update on the legislative session.   What follows is the text of his update.  You can find previous updates and additional information at www.repgregwren.com.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

My apologies for the delay in updates! This legislative update will encompass the weeks of April 11th and April 18th. These include the 13th-17th legislative days, this means the 2011 Regular Session is well over halfway complete!

Since my last update the House Ways & Means Committee has passed the General Fund Budgets and the Education Trust Fund Budgets. The Education Budget that passed included additional pay for benefits by education employees, some increases for Higher Education and the Department of Education and the closing of some tax loopholes by the Department of Revenue. Representatives Barton and Love and the members of his committee are to be commended for their work on these budgets after being forced to make some very tough decisions with revenues down drastically as a result of the recession.
